This Privacy & Logging Notice explains how Briant Broadband Limited uses personal data in connection with the Briant VPN Service.
The VPN Service is designed to help improve online privacy and security. It is not designed to make unlawful activity lawful or to guarantee complete anonymity.
This notice should be read alongside our main Privacy Policy.
To provide the VPN Service we process your account details, including your name, contact details, customer number and service status; billing, payment, order and subscription records; and your support communications with us.
Through the Briant VPN app we process:
Your email address and account identifier — used to sign you in and confirm that you have an active subscription.
A device identifier — a random identifier generated on your device and stored in your device's secure storage. It is not an advertising identifier or a hardware identifier, and it is not used for tracking or advertising.
A device name (for example "iPhone") — shown to you in the app's device management screen so you can recognise and remove your own devices.
A WireGuard public key, generated on your device — required by the WireGuard protocol to register your device with our servers.
The private tunnel IP address we assign to your device — required to configure the connection.
Your WireGuard private key is generated on your device, stored in your device's secure storage, and is never transmitted to us or to anyone else. Our servers never receive or hold client private keys.
The app contains no advertising, analytics or crash-reporting software, and does not collect usage data, diagnostics, crash logs or location data.
We do not monitor, inspect, decrypt, record or store the content of your internet activity through the VPN Service.
We do not log the websites you visit or the DNS queries your device makes.
We do not sell your personal data, share it with data brokers or advertisers, or use the VPN Service to build a profile of the websites you visit for advertising purposes.
We do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
Our VPN servers do not write traffic logs, browsing logs or DNS query logs.
For operational monitoring, our management system reads the live state of each VPN server every few seconds. This covers the time of each connected device's most recent connection handshake, the cumulative volume of data transferred, and the current internet IP address of the connected device. This information is held in temporary memory only, is overwritten at each check, and is discarded when the service restarts. It is not written to any database or log file, is never associated with the content of your traffic, and is accessible only to authorised Briant Broadband staff for the purpose of confirming that the service is operating correctly.
The account and device provisioning records described in section 2 are retained for as long as your subscription remains active. They are deleted within 30 days of your account closing, or promptly when you remove a device using the app's device management screen.
We will only retain personal data for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes explained in this notice, unless a longer period is required by law, regulation, dispute, investigation or lawful request.
So that streaming services work correctly over the VPN, our servers route traffic destined for certain known internet address ranges via a proxy server that we operate.
This is a network routing rule applied by destination address range. It does not involve inspecting, decrypting or classifying the content of your traffic, and it does not involve examining or altering your DNS queries. Your connections remain encrypted between your device and the service you are connecting to.
This proxy server is owned and operated by Briant Broadband. It does not log the destinations you connect to.
We process personal data where necessary to perform our contract with you, to comply with legal obligations, and for our legitimate interests in operating, securing, supporting, improving and protecting the VPN Service, preventing abuse, managing billing and handling complaints. Where applicable, we may rely on consent.
We do not sell, rent or trade your personal data, and we do not share it with any third party for that third party's own purposes.
We share personal data with the following providers, who act solely as our processors and on our instructions:
Google Firebase (Firebase Authentication and Cloud Firestore) — stores account records and device provisioning records.
Our hosting and infrastructure providers — provide the servers on which the VPN Service runs. These servers are operated and administered solely by Briant Broadband.
Payment processors — process subscription payments.
Software and support providers — assist us in operating and supporting the service.
We may also share personal data with professional advisers, regulators, courts, law enforcement or other authorities where required or permitted by law, and with third parties where necessary to investigate, prevent or respond to abuse, security incidents or unlawful activity.
Where personal data is transferred outside the United Kingdom, we will take the steps required by applicable data-protection law, which may include using appropriate safeguards or relying on a lawful transfer mechanism.
You have rights under data-protection law, which may include the right to access, correct, erase, restrict or object to certain processing of your personal data, and the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
